Eastbound lanes of I-670 closed this weekend

Starting Friday at 7 p.m., all eastbound lanes of Interstate 670 from the West I-670/South I-35 split to the East I-670/North I-70 split will be closed to accommodate Kansas City Convention Center ballroom expansion efforts. These lanes will reopen Monday, Feb. 6, at 5 a.m.

Construction for this phase of the project began in mid-January with the closing of I-670’s westbound lanes during night hours. This night closure schedule will continue through February and will primarily affect the eastbound lanes. These nightly closures run Monday through Saturday, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On the weekend of Feb. 18, both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-670 will be closed for the demolition of the Wyandotte Avenue Bridge. The closure will begin Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. and will end Monday, Feb. 20, at 5 a.m.

These closures are weather permitting and unforeseen delays may occur.

During lane closures, detour signs will be posted. The suggested detour routes are:

Eastbound traffic on I-70 from Kansas or I-670 will be routed to the north portion of the downtown loop on I-70. North I-70 merges into East I-70.

Westbound traffic on I-70 will be routed to the north portion of the downtown loop on I-70. North I-70 merges into West I-70. Eastbound traffic wishing to pick up South I-35 also will use this detour route.
