City development plan wins state-level award
The City of Kansas City, Mo., City Planning and Development Department and Bucher, Willis & Ratliff (BWR) Corp., a project consultant, received the Missouri State Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Outstanding Plan 2007 Award for the Line Creek Valley development plan.
The award recognized the development plan presented a “unified strategy for environmental preservation and future land development to be used by developers, property owners, business owners, residents, public officials and City staff as the adopted plan of record for the Line Creek Valley in Kansas City.”
The Line Creek Valley planning area is a 2,800-acre piece of land in the Northland, generally defined as M-152 Highway on the north, Northwest 68th Street to the south, North Platte Purchase Road to the east and Northwest Waukomis Drive/North Green Hills Drive to the west.
The plan establishes development standards for urban design, storm water management, parks and parkway design and pedestrian and transportation systems. It also sets a framework for future development consisting of walkable neighborhoods, mixed-land uses and transportation elements using appropriate street standards suitable for the terrain.
The plan now serves as a prototype for future development in other areas of the City.
BWR Corp. is a Kansas City, Mo.,-based firm of consulting engineers, planners and architects.
