Westlake Ace Hardware, Price Chopper sponsor RecycleFIRST
Recycling bins, trash tags to be available at 15 locations
The Department of Environmental Management announces that Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper have agreed to sponsor the City’s RecycleFIRST curbside recycling program. Kansas City, Missouri, residents in Phase 1 of RecycleFIRST will soon be able to obtain RecycleFIRST bins and purchase tags at 15 select Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper locations.
Residents in Phase 1 neighborhoods will receive a Recycle Guide in the mail in mid-to-late February. The Guide will contain a coupon for a free recycling bin that can be exchanged at the attached Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper locations. Bins and tags will be available in the stores on February 16, pending City Council approval.
Residents in Phases 2, 3 and 4 neighborhoods will receive their Recycle Guide and coupon a few weeks prior to their respective RecycleFIRST start date and can exchange their coupons at that time.
Residents also will be able to purchase trash tags, for $1 each, at the Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper locations. Residents can set out two bags of trash each week without having to purchase trash tags. A trash tag is required for any excess trash bags beyond the two-bag limit.
“We are very excited to be a part of Kansas City’s first curbside recycling program,” said Charlie Lynn, group sales manager of Price Chopper. “Price Chopper is committed to helping create a cleaner environment for Kansas City. RecycleFIRST will benefit Kansas City and its resident for years to come,” he added.
Linda Smith, manager of Corporate Communications of Westlake Ace Hardware said, “As a community partner, Westlake Ace Hardware is dedicated to keeping Kansas City beautiful and clean. We are pleased that we are able to support this important program.”
RecycleFIRST will launch March 1 in the first 75 neighborhoods. The program will roll out into another 75 neighborhoods in June; 150 neighborhoods in September; and the final 150 neighborhoods in December. The program includes single-family residences and apartment units of six units or less. It does not include businesses, apartments with more than six units, or homes associations that privately contract for trash services.
