FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 18, 2011

Project ahead of schedule, lane closure changes on North Oak Trafficway at I-29 Interchange begin Jan. 19

Due to early completion of part of the City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department’s installation of the 54-inch Arrowhead Water Transmission Main Project, lane closures along North Oak Trafficway at the I-29 Interchange will be modified starting Jan. 19 to accommodate Stage 3 of the project.

For Stage 3, from Jan.19 – 31, the southbound lanes of North Oak Trafficway between Vivion Road and the southbound off ramp from I-29 will be closed. In addition, the northbound lanes of North Oak Trafficway will be closed south of Vivion Road. The following ramps will be closed:

1. On-ramp to southbound I-29 from southbound North Oak Trafficway

2. Off-ramp from northbound I-29 to northbound North Oak Trafficway

3. Off-ramp from southbound I-29 to northbound North Oak Trafficway

All other ramps located at the intersection of I-29 and North OakTrafficway will be open.

“We are pleased that Stage 1 and 2 have been completed ahead of schedule,” said Acting Water Services Director Terry Leeds. “We recognize that these road closures are an inconvenience to drivers; however, this project is vital to improving the water distribution system in the Northland.”

This $10.8 million project includes the installation of a 54-inch water transmission main along North Oak Trafficway from Kansas City’s water treatment plant at 9 Highway and North Oak Trafficway to Northeast Vivion Road. The new transmission main will increase capacity for the Northland to accommodate growth and improve system reliability. Construction started in the spring of 2010 and is expected to be completed in spring 2012.

The project includes installation of two miles of 54-inch water transmission main along North Oak Trafficway from Kansas City’s water plant at 9 Highway and North Oak Trafficway to Vivion Road.

Traffic control signs will be installed in advance of construction, and the work zone speed limit is 30 mph.

This schedule is subject to change. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
