Zoo entry artwork installation selected
The Kansas City Municipal Art Commission, in conjunction with the City of Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recreation Department and the Kansas City Zoo approved a proposed artwork installation for the new zoo entry by Denver artist Andy Dufford.
Dufford’s installation will depict a mythological beast crafted of boulders and colored playground surfacing, which will sit near the entry to the zoo and provide recreational and educational opportunities for zoo visitors.
The Municipal Art Commission approved the proposal at a meeting Jan. 7 and the Parks and Recreation Board approved the proposal on Jan. 8.
The project is funded through the City’s One Percent for Art program, which sets aside one percent of the construction budget for municipal buildings for public art enhancement. The artist was selected by a panel of residents, zoo staff, City staff, project designers and art professionals.
