Night shift eliminated in Animal Control Division
The night shift in the Animal Control Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department has been eliminated due to critical staffing shortages and budget shortfalls.
The Animal Control Division will provide field coverage seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Evening and weekend animal control officers will continue to respond to dispatched priority calls only. Staff will continue to handle inquiries and take calls from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
These changes are necessary to better utilize existing staff and resources to accommodate the needs of citizens and provide service as efficiently as possible.
The mission of the Animal Control Division is to provide law enforcement and other professional animal management and animal shelter services to the citizens and animal population of Kansas City, Mo., so that the community is protected from animals, animals are treated humanely, and the public is informed about responsible pet ownership.
