Leaf and Brush Drop Centers also open Sunday this week
The City’s Leaf and Brush Drop-Off Centers, which are regularly open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., also will be open this Sunday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The centers will be open this extra day in response to the need created by this week’s ice storm for the unexpected, additional removal of tree limbs and brush. The centers are at 4707 Deramus Ave. (two blocks north of the intersection of Chouteau Trafficway and Front Street) and Interstate 470 at Raytown Road.
In addition, the winter closing of the centers has been changed to add two Saturdays, Jan. 22 and 29, during which the centers will be open. Each day, the hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Trash collection, recycling collection, and bulky item collection also have been impacted to varying degrees, with the greatest problems occurring in areas with more hills. Crews will continue working throughout the weekend to get the routes completed.
Citizens are responsible for trees on their property, while trees in the public rights-of- are maintained by the City. To date, four contractors have been hired by the City to respond to more than 350 calls made to the Parks and Recreation Department about trees in the rights-of-way which suffered storm damage.
