City and Full Employment Council sponsor new internships
Various City departments will participate in an intensive internship program from Jan. 10 until March 4 with 16 students employed by the Full Employment Council. More than 300 community service hours will be completed by the interns during this time.
Participating departments include the City Clerk’s Office, Human Relations Department, Neighborhood and Community Services Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Department of Environmental Management, Health Department, Water Services Department, and Municipal Court.
This eight-week internship program will allow the selected young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 to work as customer service representatives, members of service delivery teams and data processors. Some of the interns have experience as customer service representatives while others have earned customer service certificates from Penn Valley Community College.
“Some of the interns are in school, while others have completed their formal education and are seeking opportunities like this to enhance their work skills,” said Thalia Cherry, youth advocate manager in the City Manager’s Office.
“This internship program also provides an opportunity for City employees to positively impact a young person in a professional environment,” Cherry said.
It is estimated that the work of the interns will save the City $35,000 in salary costs.
