City announces key appointments for Public Works and Law
City of Kansas City, Mo., City Manager Troy Schulte has announced that effective Jan. 1, 2012, Assistant City Manager for Infrastructure Sherri McIntyre has been appointed as the director of the City’s Public Works Department. McIntyre has served as the interim director of Public Works since the retirement of Stan Harris in August 2011. McIntyre will continue to fulfill duties as the assistant city manager for infrastructure.
McIntyre has worked in the fields of civil engineering, public works and transportation since 1986 and has been a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri since 1991. Her career includes engineering, project management, planning and administrative positions with Delich Roth and Goodwillie, P.A. Engineers; HDR Engineering, Inc.; the City of Kansas City, Mo.; and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
McIntyre has a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa.
Schulte has also announced that effective Jan. 4, 2012, William Geary will become city attorney as City Attorney Galen Beaufort steps down. Beaufort will continue to serve the City as lead legal counsel for a proposed KCI terminal project while counseling the City Manager’s Office on a variety of complex legal agreements.
Geary joined the City’s Law Department in 1979 after nearly four years of active duty in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
With more than 30 years of municipal law experience, Geary has legal experience and knowledge on a wide range of municipal operations and activities. As a practitioner of municipal law, he has been recognized by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors with their Ovation Award in 1999; was designated Local Government Fellow by the International Municipal Lawyers Association in 2001; is a past president of the Missouri Municipal Attorneys Association (2002-03); and received their Missouri Municipal Attorneys Associations Lou Czech Award in 2005.
Geary holds Juris Doctor and LL.M degrees from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Central Missouri State University.
