FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 10, 2005
Additional tests unnecessary at Sprint Center site
No tests will be performed by the FBI or the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department following a minor incident during routine demolition activities at the downtown construction site of the Sprint Center. Initial field tests done by the Fire Department confirm that nothing harmful was emitted when a canister discharged a deterrent agent at 9 this morning.
An earlier report indicated that the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms determined that the event was not the result of a criminal act and therefore, there will not be a criminal investigation into the matter. It was not the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms that made this determination, it was the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
It remains unknown whether work will resume at this site today as all possible precautionary safety measures are being taken.
