Description Currently, the separate sewer system serves approximately 159 square miles of land north and 102 square miles south of the Missouri River. North of the Missouri River is served by a separate sanitary sewer system. The area south of the Missouri River served by a separate sanitary sewer system include south of 85th Street and east of the Blue River. There are thousands of miles of sewer pipe that collect wastewater from our homes, businesses and industrial sites (called the collection system). Wastewater travels through this collection system to pump stations located throughout the city and then to a wastewater treatment plant. North of the Missouri River, there is approximately 800 miles of gravity sewers, 34 miles of force mains and 20 pumping stations. South of the River, the separate sanitary sewer system is made up of approximately 1690 miles of gravity sewers, 30 miles of force mains and 12 pumping stations. |
