What is accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facilty

Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility

The HHW facility ACCEPTS the following household hazardous wastes:

  • Paint and paint products (all types)
  • Household cleaners
  • Aerosols
  • Pesticides
  • Lawn and garden products
  • Automotive fluids
  • Used oil
  • Fuels
  • Car batteries
  • Household batteries
  • Essentially any household chemicals


The HHW facility DOES NOT ACCEPT the following:

  • Commercial or business waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Medical waste
  • Propane or butane cylinders

Materials should be delivered in original containers. Make sure lids are sealed and that the containers are standing upright in your vehicle. These chemicals should never be placed in the trash or poured down the drain.

Mobile HHW Collection Events

Mobile collection events for residents of Kansas City, Mo., and other participating cities, accept the following materials only:

  • Antifreeze
  • Batteries
  • Motor oil
  • Paint

Other materials must be delivered to the main HHW facility.

The mobile collection events for other participating communities will accept varying materials based on the needs and planning of each community. Please call 816-513 - 8400 to inquire when an event is planned for your community and what will be accepted.
