2009
It was a great challenge, beautiful location, and very well-run (by the volunteers and the competitors).
It is just a fun run. I didn't run the past 2 years but prior to that I ran in a few of the earlier ones. The course is what I'd call knee friendly, for old knees anyway.
Great setting that I was unaware of and will now bring my family to for an afternoon.
I really liked the location. It was alot of fun to do a Wilderness Run, there aren't many around.
It's a different type of run than any other and not totally a trail run either.
I loved running out of the city and in the country. I also really liked the we were able to look at the living history museum. This is a great little trail run. I also liked the markings. The orange cones, flags and spray paint was helpful and thorough, without them I would have gotten lost!
Great soup, Kim!!
The location and course are awesome! You always have great food afterwards, too. Lots of friendly helpful people along the trail to guide the way, provide water, etc. Well done!!
Wish this was a couple of weeks earlier so that most of the leaves would still be on the trees.
The large group and narrow path at the start made it difficult to get around slow runners. But this wasn't an issue about a mile into the race.
Please add a shorter distance, something other than 5 miles. Iove this race, but can't keep up the 5 miles too much longer.

You really feel like you accomplish something with this five mile course. Challenging terrain, hopping the logs, and seeing five deer - that was AWESOME!! I also love walking the grounds and seeing the old buildings. It was really neat to show my daughter. Unique to this race and something I look forward to every year is the soup afterward!!
This run was GREAT! I loved jumping over logs and creeks, loved running through the woods. The T-shirt is beautiful. The fog was unexpected that morning, but added to the wilderness beauty.
I really like all aspects of this run. I do not usually run trails so enjoy that once in awhile. It is big enough for competition, but small enough that I can be competitive. Finally, the refreshments area always top notch.
The off-road course is great! The post race atmosphere is the best, everyone hanging around and talking afterward is something I really enjoy!!
I enjoyed the opportunity to mingle after the race with other runners in the scenic village and to warm up by the wood stove in the old schoolhouse.
My friend and I loved this run, as this was our first time trying a cross county run. We are for sure coming back next year, and going to get a bunch of friends to join us.

Your course markings were very accurate according to my GPS - something hard to do on a trail course. You succeeded in putting on a great race, please keep the long sleeve T-shirt.
This is one of the more fun events I do throughout the year. Thank you for offering it to us!
Since it was a chilly morning, the warm bonfires and after-race coffee were great touches!!
I love the location and time of year for this race, but 5 miles is too long for most causal runners and even hardcore guys like me. Please see about maybe adding a 5K event as well, or just shorten this one.
I love Shoal Creek Village, running through the woods and meadows-good family event, my 2 daughters, 1 son-in-law and all 8 grandkids came to watch and enjoyed being outside. The great soup, good raffle prizes, and medals were nice.
Volunteers were great as usual at this event, just needed more this year. I'll be back next year, I never miss this race!
Since trail runs can be confusing, instead of just having mile markers, 1/2 mile markers would be even better. I've been wanting to run for years now, and so glad I picked this one, the cross country course, soup afterwards, and long sleeve T-shirts are a plus.
My husband and I really enjoy this race. This is our second year and it's a blast!! I wish more people knew about it...but I love the 'family' feel too! Keep up the good work!

I really enjoyed the running, "out of the city", I am a country boy, by birth and I always enjoy runs where you do not see a car.
One of the reasons I love this race is because it’s so different from so many of the others in town, from the course to the kind of "small town charm" of the location and the general atmosphere. I always encourage everyone I know to run this race because it’s so fun, even if (and maybe because) the course is one of the most challenging I run. Thanks for all your hard work and I look forward to running next year.
Love the long sleeved T-shirt!!
Great course, great time of year!
I wish this race was more than once a year!
Truly enjoyed the course and definitely made me more aware of the area and what all it has to offer. And the weather held out perfectly.

I thought the whole idea of running across obstacles was neat and was exactly why I registered. I had seen a picture on the race's website of people going over a wooden fence, and I was sort of expecting that. But the creeks and bridges and jumping over logs in the forest was great.
Love It! Challenging and interesting (I was even treated to the sight of a deer running across the course.
I heard people complaining about the last hill, which was a monster, but I thought it was great!! Come on people, it's a Wilderness run and it should have some surprises like that hill. I'd leave it in at the end, but I sure bet some would disagree!! I loved the course!! That's why I was intrigued when I read about it!!.
The post-race food and coffee were excellent.
As my first true off-road race, I loved it because it was so different from running on a road or trail. It was much more technical. I liked the singletrack portion and the hilly sections through the meadows. It was a beautiful run. I also enjoyed the last hill (really).

Registering on line was great!
I liked all the challenging obstacles and the killer hill at the end.
It's the best run I've been on, much better then the street runs. I plan to run this every year.
This was my first year participating in this event and I thoroughly enjoyed it…I’ll definitely be back next year.
The event was very well organized, it just keeps getting better.
The volunteers were very friendly and helpful, there were plenty of guides along the course route to guide the runners.
Keep doing this event, I love it!
Thanks! I really like the people making soup and creamed potatoes in the caldrons behind the log cabin, that was Fabulous!
These events are an excellent way to bring additional exposure to parks that some might not otherwise visit. I particularly enjoy wooded trail runs over road races and would love to see more of them.
I love the open feel of the course and the great scenery.

I am so glad we have an event like this in the Northland! See you next year!
I think it's a great event. Love the course and the time of year the race is run. So keep having a great, fun, different event. Thanx to you, your staff and all the volunteers.
Two of my co-workers participated at the 1st annual event and highly encouraged me to run. I'm so glad that I did.
It was even more than I expected.
Thanks for a great run. It was fun. See ya next year!!!
Thanks for letting us be a part of your event. I would also encourage team competition in your event, it makes it really feel like cross-country when you have teams competing. This was a well-organized race with a great course setting. I thank KCMO Parks & Rec. and all the volunteers for their good work.
Thank you, it was fun! This was my first organized run ever, and I got to run along with my brother. He is an excellent runner, and could have been up at the front, but he held back with me for support. A nice way to spend the morning!
Thanks again for another great race.
My husband and I were in Kansas City for a conference. We live near Austin, Texas. Knowing I would be in Kansas City, I decided to search the internet for any possible runs and found yours.
