Black History Essay Contest

In honor of Black History Month, youth ages 17 and under will receive a chance to participate in an essay contest. Participants will be required to select a well-known person from the Civil Rights movement or event which best describe the struggle of a people. Essays must be a minimum of 500 words and cover a person or event which made a positive impact on the history of a people. The contest will conclude with an oral presentation. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants.
Black History Month Kick-Off (Quiz Show)

To start Black History Month, there will be a game show where the participants answer questions about various events during and after the time of slavery. The winner will receive a prize for their efforts.
Red, Black and Green Ball
Friday, Feb. 10

Ages 7 - 17
The Red, Black & Green Ball is a formal social event for the celebration of Black History Month. Youth participating to the event will be expected to dress for the occasion. All participants in attendance must wear ear red, black and/or green to represent the African American flag and be admitted in the function. Music and refreshment will be provided.
Valentine's Day Sweetheart Dance

This is a time for sweethearts to show their appreciation for one another by spending quality time together. There will be music, fun, games, prizes and refreshments
Youth Talent Night

Can you dance, play an instrument, sing a song or recite poetry? If yes, Come and showcase your talents. Participants will be judged on creativity and originality. Prizes will be given for the top three places.
Art Fair and Contest

Calling all artists! Come and showcase your best work. This is a competition to determine the most creative and original art. Ribbons will be given for the top three places. Art will be on display at Garrison Center.
Spring Break Mardi Gras Party

Ages 15 and under
Celebrating the start of Mardi Gras and spring break with a carnival type atmosphere. The party will consist of games, music, fun and plenty of food to follow Fat Tuesday. There will also be a prize for the person that wins the most bead necklaces during the games session of the party.
