A gathering of historic buildings | Shoal Creek Living History Museum is a village of more than 20 authentic 19th century buildings. The buildings date from 1807-1885 and include log cabin and clapboard structures to an antebellum brick mansion home. | | | Covering more than 80 acres of beautiful rolling hills in Kansas City North's Hodge Park, the museum dedicates itself to bringing the 19th century Missouri to life through special events, programs, tours and reenactments. Tours, weddings and school programs are available by appointment. The Wilderness Run at Shoal Creek Living History Museum Saturday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m. The Wilderness Run is a challenging cross-country run sanctioned by MARA. Runners will run through the village, around fields, up and down hills, over logs, through the woods, crossing creeks and more! More information.
A Visit with St. Nicholas Saturday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Experience Christmas as it was meant to be in the 19th century. Visit log cabins of 1825 and 1835, a school, church, mercantile and then St. Nicholas, resplendent in green velvet robes. Ride the horse drawn sleigh and take the walking tour through 17 historic buildings. $5 per person, 5 and under free.

| Weddings at Shoal Creek Living History Museum | The Church Mt. Ararat Baptist Church was originally built in 1884, near Fayette, MO. The congregation used the building for 101 years, before donating it to Shoal Creek Living History Museum. The church is a one room building with vestibule and raised chancel. It seats 125 people. Being true to the period, the church don't not have air conditioning, heat or electricity. There are several windows on two sides that allow lots of light and natural ventilation.
Rental Contract and Payment: To have a wedding at the Museum, contact the Museum as soon as possible, (816) 792-2655. The earlier you make your reservation, the more likely your desired date will be available.
A $100 deposit at the time a rental contract is executed will hold a reservation. Any remaining balance due, must be paid at least one month before the reservation date. All fees are non-refundable and all renters must complete the rental contract. The rental fee for the church allows use of the building on the rental date for the designated 2 hour time block.
Rehearsals: Your wedding party is welcome to have a rehearsal at the church on the same day as your wedding. If you wish to have a rehearsal on a prior date, you will need to make arrangements with museum staff. An additional fee applies for this service.
Exclusivity: The building you rent will be for your exclusive use, but the public may be wandering throughout the rest of the museum. The museum is a City park, so exclusive use of the museum grounds cannot be guaranteed.
Decorating the Church: Decorating of the church, can be done under specific guidelines. All decorations must be free standing. Nothing may be attached to the pews or rails other than ribbon. Tape, nails, thumbtacks, adhesive and anything leaving a mark or impression are strictly prohibited. We recommend that all flowers be silk or artificial. The Moisture from fresh bouquets can cause water damage. Please check vases and other containers for leakage. Open flames and rearranging furniture is prohibited in the church.
Artifact: All of the items in the church are historic artifacts. We expect all members of your party to treat the museum furnishings respectfully. Behavior such as placing soft drinks cans on tops of tables in inappropriate and may cause damages.
Vehicles and Parking: Guests and members of the wedding party will need to park in the museum's public parking lot. If a member of your wedding party needs physical assistance, please share those needs, so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

| From I-435, take Highway 152 east. Go 1/2 mile, then turn north onto Shoal Creek Parkway and make an immediate left onto Barry Road (the outer road of Highway 152). Go west on Barry Road. to the entrance of Robert Hodge Park. From Liberty go west on Highway 152. Go 2 miles, then turn north onto Shoal Creek Parkway and immediate left onto Barry Road. The museum is located in the park. |
