Home School Science Lab Radical Retiles & Amazing Amphibians, March 3 Students have said our Home School Science Lab is awesome. Scholars meet one day a week for five to six weeks. Each class last about two hours. Lots of hands-on activities and habitat exploration help support their home studies. Classes are designed for first through fifth grade students. Summer of Science Summer of 2012 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Summer of Science Camp is perfect for the young naturalist 6 - 12 years old. Scholars are grouped by age. Sessions are organized around specific environmental themes and include hands on animal activities, organized hikes and integrated crafts and projects. Each afternoon ends with time in the Camp Lake of the Woods pool. For more information, call 816-513-8960. Feathers, Furs, Scales and Slime Tuesday through Sunday, by reservation $4 per person; $40 minimum Ages: 3-6 years This hands-on program is geared towards preschoolers, kindergarteners and first graders. Students learn about different animals that all have backbone. Students feel fur samples, feathers, turtle shells and snake skins. They learn similarities and differences between animals. One live animal, that is able to be touched, is shared with students. Bugs Among Us Tuesday through Sunday, by reservation $3 per person; $30 minimum Ages: 3-6 years This program about insects is designed as an introduction or review for preschoolers, kindergarteners and first graders. Students learn insect characteristics and the great variety in the insect world. They learn metamorphosis and see the different stages of life. Stories and song supplement the hands-on learning. Mother Nature Reads Saturday, 10-10:45 a.m. Free Ages: pre-kindergarten through younger elementary Mother Nature reads a children's story about nature every Saturday morning (call about Holiday schedules). An animals from LNC's collection is shared and a simple craft project is demonstrated. |
