Hollywood Style Gala, honoring Ms. Hattie McDaniel
Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway
Friday, Feb. 10
6 - 9 p.m.
We are rolling out the red carpet to celebrate the New Hattie McDaniel Exhibition.
Be our guest for this Hollywood Style Gala opening reception, hosted by Fox 4 News film Critic Shawn Edwards. Individuals are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from Hollywood or in evening attire.
Donations are encouraged and will contribute the Friends of Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center programming and exhibitions.
The Hattie McDaniel Exhibit runs from Feb. 10 to May 2012.
This exhibition examines the life and career of Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to win an Academy Award and a Midwest native. It chronicles the struggles she endured to "make it big" in Hollywood during the Jim Crow era, when racism and segregation was the norm. It examines the controversial roles she played on screen and the path she blazed for future talented African American performers.
