Vacant Buildings Registration

The City Council passed an ordinance Feb. 5, 2009, establishing requirements for registering vacant buildings and buildings that are being foreclosed. The registry’s purpose is to identify vacant buildings in the community and to maintain emergency contact information for their owners and property managers.

Registration requirements may be downloaded here. Please read the requirements before registering a building.

No fees are charged if the registration is filed in a timely manner. For late registration, however, penalty fees range from $50 to $500.

The registration must be updated whenever the property status or contact information changes. For example, the registration will need to be revised if a property is sold or if a new property manager is hired. When you first register, you will be asked for your birth date and will be given a registration number. These become your username and password when you log in to update your information.

If you have questions, contact Shalisha Boles at (816) 513-3200 or by e-mail at vpropertyreg@kcmo.org.
