News: As of January 1, 2012, the animal shelter located at 4400 Raytown Road is managed by the Kansas City Pet Project. Shelter operations include caring for animals that have been picked up, and serving as an adoption center. Licenses will continue to be available at the shelter. Although the shelter is now under private management, it will still be called the Kansas City Animal Shelter.
This change improves the likelihood more animals find homes, lost animals find their way back home, and allows animal control officers to focus on investigations and enforcing City ordinances. For more information about Kansas City Pet Project, please visit
