EXECUTIVE RECRUITMENT INFORMATION

ASSISTANT ENGINEERING DIRECTOR
(Current salary range:  $6,074-$10,215 monthly with excellent benefits. Beginning salary is negotiable DOQ.)

The Assistant Engineering Director is a vital and key management position which oversees WSD’s Engineering Division and reports to the Deputy Director. Its primary function is to provide engineering expertise to WSD and to plan and direct its massive capital improvements program. In addition to an ongoing 5-year $500 million CIP program, WSD is responsible for the planning and construction of a daunting $2.43 billion EPA mandated overflow control project. The Engineering Unit employs 71 personnel. Requires ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal engineering, including responsibility for planning and directing a major division of municipal public works or utilities operations as a registered engineer. Must be registered as a professional engineer with the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, or in a state having reciprocity with the State of Missouri at time of appointment.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in communities with service populations of more than 300,000.  For additional information about Kansas City and its Water Services Department, please visit www.kcmo.orgThe position will remain open until filled. DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF WATER SERVICES
(Principal Assistant to Department Head)

The Deputy Director of Water Services serves as the Department’s chief operations officer and reports to and is appointed by the Water Services Director. This is an exempt, full-assistant department head position appointed by the Director.  Requires an accredited Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering or a related field with ten years of progressive experience involving public utilities, including three to five years of executive level supervisory and managerial experience overseeing a public utility comparable in size and complexity to Kansas City.  While utility management experience is required, the City is looking for more of a generalist, CEO-type rather than a technical expert.  For additional information about Kansas City and its Water Services Department, please visit www.kcmo.org.  The position will remain open until filled.  DEVELOPMENT PLANNING MANAGER
(Senior Planner)

 This is a division head that has responsibility for directing all current planning programs within the Kansas City area. Responsibilities involve the administration, coordination, and supervision of the current planning division as it delivers related services on a community-wide and regional basis. Works with a considerable amount of independence and has oversight of the entire process from initial conception, entitlement, and permitting through the final stages and completion of the project. Requires an accredited Master's degree in planning and 4 years of responsible professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work; OR an accredited Bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work including 3 years at the level of Planner. WATER SERVICES DIRECTOR
(Highly Competitive Compensation Package with Beginning Salary Negotiable DOQ)
 
    Located in the Heart of America, Kansas City, Missouri has a population of 450,000 and is the catalyst for the continued economic development success of this dynamic metropolitan area with a population of 2.1 million. Kansas City provides all of the amenities of a world-class city in an historic, charming neighborhood environment. Kansas City is a thriving, exciting city with ambitious plans for the future. The City of Kansas City operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor and 12 Council Members who serve four-year terms with a two-term limit. The Mayor and 6 Council Members are elected at large with one at-large Council Member representing each district. Six Council Members are elected only by voters in their districts. The City Manager is appointed upon the recommendation of the Mayor with confirmation/approval of the appointment required by a majority of the City Council. The City Manager is responsible for a large, varied, multiple-purpose municipal organization representing a workforce of 6,727 FTE's in 19 departments with an annual budget of $1.2 billion. The Water Services Department is responsible for all operations, engineering and financial management activities for the City's water, waste water and storm sewer utilities. The water and waste water utilities serve an eight-county area with a population of approximately 1 million, while the storm sewer utility boundaries are the Kansas City corporate limits. The Department has 1005 employees and an operating budget of $189 million.
