Summer Housing Initiative
The Summer Housing Occupancy and Homeownership Initiative is being implemented to reduce or eliminate a list of homes
that have been rehabilitated or constructed using federal funds provided to various housing partners but remain vacant due to a deflated real estate market. The initiative includes:
- Identifying woman's shelters for participation in a program whereby four homes, located within the vicinity of the main shelter, would be transferred to their agencies for rental housing for women with children or other housing needs;
- Increasing homebuyer assistance to a maximum to 30% of the purchase price for eligible homebuyers who purchase a home from the City's inventory of homes;
- Implementing the City's new Homeownership Initiative Demonstration Program whereby homes will be sold to selected buyers who are not able to access traditional bank financing; and
- Renting out the balance of any unsold homes still available after Sept. 1, 2012.
