
What is a public health ambassador?
Public Health Ambassadors are residents of Kansas City, Mo., who are interested in enhancing the health and well-being of their community through a variety of activities.
The Health Department recruits, trains and places volunteer Ambassadors in unique Public Health situations that focus on:
Personal and Family Preparedness for an Emergency - Public Health Ambassadors learn to prepare themselves and their family and neighborhood or circle of influence for public health emergencies.
Community Education - In this role, Public Health Ambassadors learn about various health issues and assist in educating the public throughout the year.
Crisis response to health emergencies - Our Ambassadors help provide an emergency response effort to serious public health emergencies in which the Health Department must respond. Examples of these emergencies may include large outbreaks of contagious diseases like pandemic flu and smallpox.
Do I need special skills to be a Public Health Ambassador?
Public Health Ambassadors help others by using talents and abilities; however, there are no special skills that are required to be a Public Health Ambassador. A desire to help others is encouraged.
Training will be provided to you at no cost. Some of the training includes an Introduction to Public Health, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services “Ready in 3” program, and selected classes offered by The National Incident Management System of the Emergency Management Institute

Keeping Kansas City healthy during public health emergencies is a top priority for the Health Department. Residents of the City need to be prepared for public health emergencies and know how to stay safe. You can be a part of this effort and make a significant impact on your community by volunteering.As a Public Health Ambassador you will learn how to:
