The Health Department's inspects all public and semi-public pools, spas and hot tubs in Kansas City, Mo. Pools are inspected on average once per month. Except for the opening inspection, all routine inspections are unscheduled.
Pool operator classes
Pools, spas and hot tubs licensed by the Health Department are required to have a certified pool operator on staff or on contract, according to the "Public Health Rules & Regulations for the Operation & Maintenance of Swimming Pools & Bathing Facilities".
To satisfy this requirement, pool operators may attend classes offered at the Health Department at a cost of $25 per person, payable by cash, money order or corporate check (no personal checks).
Upcoming pool operator classes are scheduled at the Health Department for June 13 and June 21. Classes are typically held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be able to sign in the day of the class from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Payment is accepted during that time. Each class will be limited to 50 participants, and pre-registration is required. To preregister, call 816-513-6315.
The Health Department also accepts certification through the National Swimming Pool Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association, both of which offer local classes. Information on their classes may be found at their websites listed in the gray link box.
