HIV and AIDS information
HIV and AIDS statistics in the Kansas City 11-county area differ greatly from State and National statistics. The 11-county area, which is determined by the Ryan White funding received, includes Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray Counties in Missouri and Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.
As of the end of 2010, there were 4,558 people living with HIV in the 11-county area. That includes people who have been diagnosed in other jurisdictions and moved here.
In 2010, there were 170 new cases in males and 35 new cases in females reported in that area. A more thorough breakdown may be found in the Kansas City TGA Statistics fact sheet. (Data from 2011 will be made available with the release of the 2011 HIV/AIDS Epidemilogy Profile in midsummer 2012).
Remember, not everyone with HIV has AIDS, and people with AIDS can, with appropriate and timely treatment, greatly improve their health.
