The Food Advisory Board is a group of individuals appointed by the mayor to assist the Health Department on fee and food code revisions, which are standards that food service establishments must meet to operate safely under the Food Protection Program.

The Kansas City Food Advisory Board

 

The Board includes the division manager for the Health Department's Environmental Health Services Division, the program manager for Food Protection (Chair), a representative of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, a member of academia, a member of the food industry who is not affiliated with the GKCRA, a representative of the medical community, a representative of the Retail Grocers Association, and two members at large recommended by the Health Department director.


Stephen R. Greer

Mr. Greer is a restaurant executive and owner with 40 years of experience in management of full service restaurants. He is a past president of the Missouri Restaurant Association of Kansas City and a past board member of the Kansas City Conventions Bureau. He currently owns the Golden Ox Restaurant.

Charlene Adesina

Ms. Adesina is a Food Service Field Technician with the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She was previously their Catering Coordinator, served as the Dietary Director at Park Lane Medical Center for 11 years, and was the Sanitation Supervisor at Baptist Medical Center for seven years. She is a member of National Dietary Association and the Missouri School Food Service Association. She is a Certified Dietary Manager and a Certified Food Protection Professional.

William Schmidt

Mr. Schmidt is currently a Physician Assistant in a gastrointerology practice. He has worked in public health positions for over 30 years, including six years as the director of the Jackson County Health Department, six years with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as director of the Division of Environmental Health and Epidemiology, six years as the Assistant State Health Director in Wisconsin, and five years as director of the LaCrosse County Health Department. He has a Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina.

Ms. Connors is currently employed by Copaken, White and Blitt, LLC as the Market Master at the City Market, the position she has held for the last four years. She has 12 years of management experience in the food service industry. She is also currently president of the Missouri Farmers Market Association. She has completed all Serve Safe Food Protection Program training for managers, and was recognized in 2000 with the Outstanding Food Service of the Year Award.

Dr. Neuberger is a professor and epidemiologist in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, University of Kansas Medical Center. He has a Doctor of Public Health and Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.His principle research interest is in environmental causes of cancer. He is also a member of the American Public Health Association and a past member of the Wet Weather Solutions Community Panel.

Mr. Malone is the manager of the Health Department's Environmental Health Services division. In this role he directs all health ordinance enforcement within the City. He has over 35 years of experience in public health with service at the federal, state and local level. He has served as adjunct faculty at St. Louis University School of Public Health and at the University of Kansas Medical Center's Public Health Program. He holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia and chairs the External Advisory Committee of the University of Missouri's Public Health Graduate Program in Columbia, Mo.
