Community Initiative on Depression

Depression is a common medical condition, yet it is commonly misunderstood and often goes undiagnosed. To combat depression, the MidAmerica Coalition on Health Care led a collaborative effort including the City of Kansas City, Mo., and 14 large area employers to develop the Community Initiative on Depression. Other organizations involved include Hallmark, Sprint and St. Luke's Hospital.

The Health Department and Human Resources Department are taking lead roles in the City's participation in the CID. The CID plans to provide employees and their families with current medical information and facts about depression, why it is important to recognize and diagnose depression, why it is important to recognize and diagnose depression and how to seek treatment. It also will help people learn more about depression's impact on the workplace.
