The Fire Prevention Division reviews plans for compliance to the "2000 International Fire Code." The 2000 International Fire Code has been adopted, by ordinance, by the City of Kansas City, Mo. The review process covers both architectural and mechanical plans for the construction of new buildings. It also involves plans for remodeling and change of occupancy. Major items in the plans review process that are delegated to the Fire Department include fire department access, fire hydrant placement, fire suppression systems and life safety exit concerns.
