Offices and Services

The Emergency Medical Services Division, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) repair office, fire apparatus equipment office and the storeroom are all housed at the training academy. When the academy was built in 1965, it originally housed the Fire Department repair shop, but those activities were moved to a new site as part of the Public Works Department.

SCBA repair room
The primary function is to repair all SCBA equipment. The following are part of the daily tasks: inventory; ordering and stocking of parts; record keeping of all repairs to regulator/harness and cylinders; coordination of training; and distribution of any pertinent information concerning SCBA care, use and maintenance.

A secondary function of the SCBA repair room is the repair and maintenance of other miscellaneous tools and equipment. This involves inventory, ordering and stocking of parts to complete the repairs, pick up and delivery of the items serviced by the SCBA repair room or outside vendors, ordering fuel for the fuel truck, various academy grounds maintenance and other miscellaneous tasks that may arise.

Storeroom
The storeroom is maintained and managed by civilian personnel. Their job is to see that all firefighters are equipped with personal protective gear that is of a high quality material and protects from intense flame and heat. The storeroom also issues the daily uniforms (trousers and various styles of shirts). Storeroom staff order and dispense stations supplies monthly (various cleaning supplies, automotive, general and office supplies) to upkeep of the station and its equipment. They also order and supply the department with all EMS supplies.

Equipment office
The equipment office makes sure that all fire apparatus are maintained and equipped with the proper fire equipment. Fire Apparatus specifications are written by the equipment officer. The equipment officer also schedules repairs and maintenance for all apparatus.
