Hotel and motel
A tax on the sales or changes for sleeping in rooms paid by transient guests of hotels, motels and tourist courts situated within the City and doing business within the city.

A tax of the gross receipts derived from the retail of sales of food and drink by every person operating a food establishment.

A business license fee on Kansas City rental car businesses and hotels/motels to be used to fund the building of the downtown arena.

Withholding
Any employer maintaining a place of business within the City of Kansas City, Mo., and any non-resident employer with employees working within Kansas City, Mo., is required to deduct and withhold the 1 percent earnings tax from employee earnings. A non-resident employer with Kansas City, Mo., residents may voluntarily withhold the earnings tax from the residents by establishing a withholding account and remitting the taxes withheld.
