Single document All papers constituting a single petition must be filed at one time with the election authority or the City Clerk.
Witness and notarization Each petition page must be signed by the circulator and notarized prior to the time petitions are filed with the election authority, or the City Clerk. Petition pages must be original (not corrected or changed).
Filing of petitions Petitions of nomination may be filed with an appropriate election authority, or the CIty Clerk, at least four weeks prior to the date of the primary election. Closing date for filing is Jan. 25, 2011.
Tie Breaker In the event candidates file petitions at the same date and time. The process to break the tie would be for both candidates to sign a statement agreeing to flip a coin. The coin would be flipped three times to allow a fair chance. The candidate who wins two out of three is declared the winner.
MayorQualifications- Resident of the city five years prior to date of election
- Paid City and County taxes for two years preceding date of election
- Age 25 prior to election
- Qualified voter of the city
- Shall not have been found guilty either after a trial or as a result of a plea of nolo contendere of a felony or any other act in another jurisdiction that would be a felony in Missouri, unless a qualified voter for 5 years prior to the election
Specifications- Elected by voters of the city at large
- Term of office is four years beginning May 1, following the election
- Starting annual salary– Anticipated $128,082
Nomination Petitions for Mayor
CouncilmemberQualifications- Resident of councilmanic district for six months immediately prior to date of the election
- Resident of the city two years prior to date of election
- Paid City and County taxes for two years preceding date of election
- Age 25 prior to election
- Be a qualified voter of the city
- Shall not have been found guilty either after a trial or as a result of a plea of nolo contendere of a felony or any other act in another jurisdiction that would be a felony in Missouri, unless a qualified voter for 5 years prior to the election
Specifications- In-District Councilmember is elected by voters of respective districts
- At Large Councilmember is elected by all voters of the city
- Term of office is four years beginning May 1, following the election
- Starting annual salary–Anticipated $64,032

(Important Notice - In-District Council Person Candidates, who begin collecting signatures at this time, are running the risk of not getting the correct signatures due to the redistricting of Councilmanic Districts.)
At Large Councilmember: Petition filed with the City Clerk or an appropriate election authority signed by no fewer than 500 nor more than 1,500 registered voters of the city.
