The River Market is an urban redevelopment district with concentrated public and private investments which are revitalizing the area as a residential and commercial adjunct to the downtown. The area is located directly north of the Downtown Loop and bounded by Missouri River on the north, Heart of America Bridge to the east, I-70 on the south and Washington Avenue on the west. In the heart of the River Market area is the City Market, an indoor-outdoor market containing a variety of food related specialty shops, restaurants, cultural entertainment facilities and the Arabia Steamboat Museum.
In addition to The River Market, other significant redevelopment activities have occurred and are still occurring in the River Market Area. Most significant is the conversion of the historic buildings into loft residential development. Over 700 lofts units have been developed in the last decade with an additional 500 units anticipated in the next three years.
One program to enhance redevelopment activities in the River Market Area is the River Market Revolving Loan Program. Loans are targeted to purchase fixed assets and working capital including real estate, leasehold improvements, purchase of machinery equipment, furniture, interim interest, professional fees and working capital expenses.
