Zoning and Development Code
As of January 1, 2011, Kansas City's new Zoning & Development Code is within Chapter 88 of the Code of Ordinances, replacing Chapters 80 and 66, the previous zoning and subdivision ordinances. The new code consolidates all land development regulations into a single document and contains new and modified regulations. Kansas City’s new Zoning & Development Code, replacing a code with sections dating to 1926, was approved by Ordinance 081033 on May 21, 2008. Then, on June 10, 2010 the City Council passed two ordinances further revising the Zoning and Development Code: Ordinance 100394 CS response to policy and adminsitrative revisions identified during the first six-month review; and Ordinance 100299 CS, enabling urban agriculture.
Kansas City is an exciting and vibrant city that welcomes development and redevelopment activies consistent with city policies. The city's goal is to minimize the regulatory burden on developers, while fulfilling our obligation to protect the public welfare. For additional information on the Zoning & Development Code, refer to the Zoning & Development Code Guide.

On-Going Assessment and RevisionDuring the approval process, staff committed to periodic assessments and revisions of the code, so that it remains a viable and functional tool. Rather than process revisions to the code on a continual basis, the intention is that they be bundled and presented for review on a periodic basis.
