Area Plans
Area Plans recommend strategies to help realize a community’s long term vision for the future and provide a proactive, comprehensive framework to guide public decisions on land use, housing, public improvements, community development, and city services. Area plans provide both proactive strategies (phased action steps which are outcome driven) and reactive guidelines (evaluation tool to guide future decision making). The area plan will be used by the City and the community alike, and will become an element of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The City is divided into 18 geographic areas for which area plans are being prepared (see map below).

Gashland/Nashua
Boundaries:
- North – city limits of Kansas City, Mo. and Smithville
- South – city limits of Kansas City, Mo. and Gladstone
- East – North Woodland Ave and North Indiana Ave
- West – county boundary of Clay and Platte Counties
The original plan was adopted in February 1977. The adoption is a significant transition point for this area transforming from a low-density suburban residential area to an emerging commercial/employment center.
