The Citywide Planning division collects data and produces demographic reports on Kansas City, Missouri. The primary focus is on tailoring U.S. Census data with that of Kansas City, Missouri building data to fulfill the informational needs and geographical areas of interest to each client.
Additionally, long-range planners work with area developers, property owners, neighborhood groups, community agencies, and local businesses to develop and maintain "blueprints for development" in the form of area plans for 18 geographic areas of the city. These long-range plans provide the basis for the city's ability to determine appropriate zoning for a property, which in turn defines how property in the city may be used.
Within the long range-planning staff, preservation planners oversee nominations to the Kansas City, Mo. and National Register of Historic Places, as well as facilitating the meetings of the Landmarks Commission.
