| Dear citizen:  Thank you for subscribing to Insight, my monthly e-message to update you on exciting events and progress in our city. Kansas City is truly an All-America City, with an award that recognizes its progress in meeting citizen needs.
This summer, Kansas City introduces a new water park, spray grounds, youth events and events for citizens of all ages. We're also launching an informational campaign on City services and participating in Homes from the Heartland, a volunteer effort done in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Kansas City to assist Hurricane Katrina victims.

Kansas City declared All-America City The City was named one of 10 All-America Cities for 2006. The award recognizes communities of all sizes — including neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties and regions — that have made major progress in meeting their most important needs. This is the fifth time the City has achieved this honor. Kansas City featured its downtown renaissance; the Westside Community Action Network Center, a neighborhood and community-policing organization; and Operation Breakthrough, the largest single-site child care center in Missouri. We’re on it! The City is excited to launch a bold communication strategy to emphasize to citizens the City is serious about the efficient delivery of basic services. In addition to billboards around town, you will learn how “We’re on it” in print, on the radio and online. This campaign draws attention to neighborhoods, not just downtown revitalization work. We aim to convey our pride in providing services by showing your tax dollars at work. Homes from the Heartland Katrina Rebuilding Project begins Saturday The City is helping build 10 homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina as part of a national home rebuilding project called Operation Home Delivery. The building event will take place June 17-23 at Liberty Memorial, with volunteer workers and family activities. You can help by donating and helping kick off the volunteer event at the Homes from the Heartland Gala on June 17 at the Westin Crown Center. The gala fundraiser, which will be emceed by comedian David Naster, will feature a silent auction, a performance by the McFadden Brothers and music by Neon Blue. New City water parks This summer, the City opened three new water parks for residents. New spray grounds are located at Loose Park, 52nd Terrace and Summit, and Longview Park, 1701 Longview Road. These water playgrounds are a fun alternative to standard swimming pools. The new Springs Aquatic Center, located in the northland at 9400 N.W. Congress in Tiffany Hills Park, is a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that features competition, lazy and zero depth entry pools, splash grounds and two slides. Locate a water park or swimming pool near you. Youth Beat magazine online Find the latest resources for the area's youth in the second issue of the Kansas City Youth Beat magazine. The publication features information on activities, events and youth organizations. This issue offers even more resources in Kansas City for area youth and their families.
