Prevailing Wage Certified Payroll Training
A new and improved training class is available for current and potential contractors awarded City projects. The training, provided by the Contract Compliance Office, focuses on providing contractors with a better understanding of how to calculate Prevailing Wage rates thereby ensuring accurate completion of City Certified Payrolls.
Contractor’s payroll personnel attending the class receive detailed instruction regarding correct entry of information on City Certified Payroll forms. Explanation of overtime schedules is provided along with instruction on how to calculate overtime and fringe benefits for various construction occupations. The participants receive case scenarios to work through, fill out all documents and create a mock submission to the City. This provides the participants with an opportunity to perform the task with City staff available to assist and explain as needed.
It is evident that the contractors appreciated the hands on training they received along with the additional resource information provided to assist them on future payrolls. According to the participants, they “loved the case work examples” and “being hands on is a lot better than having different speakers talking”. Contractors also commented that they found the class to be “very helpful” and “very informative, ideal for employees really dealing with KCMO contracts”.
By presenting the new payroll training, the Contract Compliance Office hopes to reduce the number of mistakes made on Certified Payroll forms and avoid the underpayment of Prevailing Wage to workers performing tasks on City projects.
The next payroll training class is scheduled for fall, 2010. If you are a contractor and interested in attending, please contact Kathy Lam at (816) 513-1403.
