Funk's Front Porch Blog
This is the Mayor’s Office's new Blog. We realize that it doesn’t look much a Blog…..today. We are working with the city and their vendor to integrate a new Blog feature into the website. Once it is functional we will post regular updates from the Mayor and his staff. For now, enjoy our text-style notes, and check back for an update to the real deal.

Council Session Day
To some extent in the Mayor's office, Thursdays are like our gameday. Thursdays are when the City Council meets to discuss and vote on ordinances and resolutions affecting city business. The day is usually pretty busy. On top of the Mayor's normal schedule there is often meetings with one of more councilmembers to discuss specific legislation.
The afternoon is usually booked entirely with council sessions. The City Council meets in a Business Session at 1:30 p.m. where they discuss city issues and the day's legislation. After that they are usually in closed session for a bit, discussing legal or personnel issues. Then, at 3:00 p.m., the council meets in Legislative Session to vote on the ordinances and resolutions that have been passed out of committee.
Add to all that the likelihood that the media will have multiple requests for the Mayor's time, and it all makes for a hectic day. Even so, we enjoy Thursdays because that is where we have a great opportunity to make a difference for Kansas City residents.

Incoming and Outgoing
We have new blood in the Mayor's office. Brady Pollington joined us this week as my Executive Assistant. Brady comes to us with a really solid background in personnel and office management. As you might expect, the Mayor's office handles a lot of paperwork, fields a lot of calls, and touches a lot of constituents. Brady will help me with these tasks and make sure it all runs smoothly.
Vanessa Williams has been working in the Mayor's Office as a part time employee since the beginning of the year. Vanessa handled a variety of administrative duties including answering phones and handling constituent concerns. Vanessa has accepted a new job at the Municipal Court beginning Monday. We will miss her.

Mayor Funkhouser at MML Annual Conference
The Mayor is out of town for the first few days this week at the Missouri Municipal League Annual Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks. These conferences are a good way to connect with elected and appointed officials from cities all across Missouri.
The Mayor is also a member of several more local Mayors groups including Clay and Platte County Mayors and the Metro Mayors Caucus. Mayor Funkhouser believes strongly in adopting best practices from other cities, so these meetings are a chance for him to learn, as well as a good way for him to connect socially with his fellow mayors. A Brand New www.kcmo.org Welcome to the city’s new website. We hope you take a lot of time to look around. The look and feel of the new website is spectacular, and it seems as if the new navigation will be much better for city residents who are looking for something specific. As for the Mayor’s office, we are officially moving all our data, content and other fun stuff to the city’s website. Our separate website, Funks Front Porch (www.funksfrontporch.com), will be phased out. Instead, we plan to take full advantage of the city’s new capabilities and post everything from this blog, to a full picture gallery, a video gallery, and all types of policy material. Please take the chance to look around the Mayor’s pages as well. We plan to update them daily and hope you like what you see. Mark S.

Contact with the residents of Kansas City is what keeps me grounded. Real people living in the real world know what they want from thier city government. I want to hear how you feel about the issues affecting your neighborhood, your businesses, and your families. I also want to give you an opportunity to ask your Mayor questions. I will do my best to answer some of your questions either on this website or in my newspaper column, Straight Talk with the Mayor.
Good communication is a two-way street. I hope we can keep all lanes open between my office and the people I serve. Communicate with the Mayor
